 An Actor/Preacher Prepares: Billy Graham Performs the New Revivalism

Taking a cue from Constantin Stanislavski’s An Actor Prepares, this book, An Actor/ Preacher Prepares, reintroduces a familiar figure of recent history and elucidates the social and performative transitions essential to Billy Graham’s journey to cast himself as an appropriate evangelist. Starting before the Los Angeles crusade of 1949 to his reaction following the Academy Awards when the movie version of Elmer Gantry won three statues (1961), this book sheds critical light on the way Graham created a new revivalism based on his new performance paradigm.

Call for Papers Now Available for Fourth International Conference on Religion and Spirituality in Society

The conference is now accepting proposals for paper presentations, workshops, posters or colloquia. We also encourage faculty and research students to submit joint proposals for paper presentations or colloquia. Submissions should address issues of religion, theology, and spirituality through one of the following themes:
* Religious Foundations
* Religious Community and Socialization
* Religious Commonalities and Differences
* The Politics of Religion
Presenters have the option to submit completed papers to the International Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Society. If you are unable to attend the conference in person, virtual registrations include the option to submit a video presentation, and/or submission to the one of the journals for peer review and possible publication, as well as subscriber access to the International Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Society.

Although Costa Rica’s official religion is Catholicism, the country’s open attitude and infamous acceptance to religious freedom has ushered a recent spiritual awakening that has welcomed an unprecedented increase in religious sects across this peaceful Central American nation. Believers in Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Taoism, Hare Krishna, Scientology and many other faiths and practices have established strong footholds in the Costa Rican community.
