Scholar Webinar Series - April

Jason Berg: Transforming the Classroom - What happens when students take an active role to improve their own performance?
17 April 2014, 2pm Central
Scholar facilitates the creation of student communities of practice around peer review. Everyone is expected to contribute to the knowledge community and take responsibility for their learning and the learning of others. Students actively work to improve their own performance by researching multiple sources and perspectives, working with peers to frame their understandings, discussing each other’s knowledge works and sharing their knowledge in portfolios.

Prof. Bill Cope: Transforming Learning - What happens when we answer the most fundamental questions students and instructors have of their performance, "How am I doing?"
29 April 2014, 2pm Central
Over the past several years, my research group at The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagin has been attempting to address the challenge of developing next-generation learning environments. Scholar, the main product of this R&D work, is a digital teaching platform that transforms the patterns of interaction in learning by putting students first, positioning them as knowledge producers instead of passive knowledge consumers. Scholar supports learners and instructors with sophisticated and multifaceted formative assessment modes and in-depth learning analytics.
